Just playing with a couple programs I downloaded.
Sketch, lineart, colouring and eye done in MS Paint
shading done in GIMP
background done in Paint.NET with its filters....

Honestly, the shading doesn't look that different from my MS Paint shading, I find.. ._.;

... xD I went out of the lines much more though, I had to fill it in a different colour to see where and get rid of the 'white spots' and I don't like the shading at the end of his tail and at his chest D:

I like the shading on the hair ^_^ And the little blue pet-thingeh. And the pose. And the colours.
